SAN MATEO, Calif. — October 27, 2026. San Mateo Public Library began requiring a personal identification number (PIN) for sign-in to Libby and Kanopy digital reading and streaming services starting October 6, 2026.
Details for residents and visitors
The city says the PIN is the same as the one used for a San Mateo Public Library account and is usually the last four digits of the phone number on file. People who cannot find or remember their PIN can contact the library at (650) 522-7833. The authentication update does not change existing checkouts, holds or personalization. Users are generally prompted for a PIN on a new device or after signing out.
Before you go or sign in
A PIN change is an account-security requirement, not a charge for Libby or Kanopy. Do not send a library barcode and PIN to an unverified caller or link. Library cardholders should use the library’s normal sign-in system and contact staff for account help.
